Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity looked to be in control, up by seven runs in the first inning, but Highland came back to grab a 14-9 win on Thursday at Skyline High School.

Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity’s Marlee Pieper was perfect at the dish, going 2-2. She singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Even though K Olson allowed nine runs over seven innings she still recorded the victory. She struck out three, walked six and surrendered 10 hits.

Highland easily handled Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity pitching as six hitters combined for 12 hits, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored.

Jazzmyn Bradford took the loss for Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity. She allowed 11 runs in five innings, walked 11 and struck out one.

Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity’s rally started when Rene Burkland singled. Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity pushed more runs across when Burkland scored on a walk by Faith McLeroy, Pieper scored when Samantha Beard drew a bases loaded walk, Burkland, Beard and McLeroy scored on a three-run triple by Calli Trujillo, and Trujillo scored on an RBI triple by Lizzy Cartwright.

It didn’t take long for Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity to answer as it scored one run of its own in the fifth. Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity scored on an RBI double by Lily Plante.

Highland stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs on a two-run double by A Webster.

Highland built upon its lead with three runs in the seventh. A single by K King ignited the offense,, scoring J Laflesch. That was followed up with a steal of home by S Dixon.
