Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity lost 18-2 to Tucson High School Wednesday at Red Mountain High School despite Rene Burkland’s two-hit day at the dish.

M Trejo got the win for Tucson High School. She allowed two runs over six innings. She struck out 10, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

Tucson High School easily handled Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity pitching as seven hitters combined for 18 hits, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Rachel Burkland took the loss for Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity. She allowed 18 runs in six innings, walked six and struck out three.

The lead stayed with Tucson High School after the first, when it scored five runs on an RBI double by M Trejo, two singles, and an RBI triple by V Caldera.

Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity brought home one run in the first inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the first, Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity scored on a solo home run by Burkland.

Tucson High School got three-run rallies in the third inning and the fourth. In the third, Tucson High School scored on a two-run double by A Santa Maria, bringing home Caldera and M Trejo.

One Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fourth, making the score 11-2. An RBI single by Samantha Beard set off Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity rally. Alexis Ochoa to end the Deer Valley Skyhawks Varsity threat.
