Boys and Girls Cross Country Cross Country, Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country · Espinoza, Stutesman earn state medalist honors, lead Skyhawks to top 15 team finishes


The Deer Valley Skyhawks completed their 2018 campaign with two top 15 team finishes at the Division 2 State Cross Country Championships on November 10th at Cave Creek Golf Course. The boys started the day, lead by sophomore Randy Espinoza, who finished 6th place in a time of 16:17 over the 5000 meter course. This was Randy’s second top 21 finish, improving from 12th as a freshman. He was followed by Jake Bruch (So. – 39th place), Matthew Kuczora (So. – 93rd place), Xavier Rodriguez (Jr. – 115th place), Johnathan Christopher (Sr. – 216th place), and Luke Heard (Fr. – 219th place). The boys finished in 14th place with 423 points.

Emily Stutesman completed her third top 6th place finish, running to a 3rd place finish for the Skyhawks in the girls race. Emily ran 18:37 on the day, and was interviewed by Runnerspace.com, detailing her journey over the past four years. As team, the girls finished 13th place, helped along by strong performances from Kjersti Jenks (Sr. – 44th place), Morgan McKinney (Fr. – 128th place), Megan Kuczora (So. – 133rd place), Camilla Alcantar (So. – 164th place), and Jasmine Larson (Jr. – 169th place).
